Strawboard and yoghurt pots... the most sustainable kitchen ever from Eco Kitchens Online!

As a former chef, Tim Rigby has the practical experience and the exact design credentials to produce a kitchen that is stylish, easy to use and eco friendly.

Tim wanted to produce freestanding kitchen units that could be made from recycled and sustainable materials and could also be recycled and taken with you when you move house.  It took a lot of careful research by Tim and I to find and test all the components and materials to make a truly eco friendly kitchen before we could start to design our kitchens.

So Tim has now designed and pioneered a new range of innovative bespoke freestanding kitchen units made from strawboard. The custom-made freestanding units are crafted from sustainable oak and recycled straw and are the first of their kind in the UK.

We construct our kitchen units using our unique frames of oak which have FSC* accreditation. or locally sourced woods such as elm. The cabinet carcasses are made from strawboard which uses waste straw product and unlike MDF*, strawboard does not contain formaldehyde.  Formaldehyde is a concern to many people. Strawboard has excellent environmental credentials, made entirely from waste straw which is totally renewable and absorbs CO² as it grows giving it a very low carbon footprint. It is hard wearing, is moisture and heat resistant and all the eco kitchen units have a ten year warranty.

The oak and strawboard units, are hand made in Somerset are finished only with natural oils and waxes  to enhance their beauty or can be painted in a range of eco paints that contain no voc's*. We have carefully  tested and selected the best eco paints to give  the long lasting and durable finish required in a kitchen.

The collection includes all the essential pieces one would expect to beautifully furnish a kitchen.  The freestanding pieces are individually stunning but combine to give a superb informal look. Freestanding kitchens are flexible, can be arranged differently  and are extendable  growing with you as your family grows.

All our furniture is hand crafted using traditional joinery techniques but combined with modern details such as the best  soft close drawer boxes. to give the quality and detail one would expect. The kitchens are made by hand in our workshops in Somerset and if you are in the area and are able to visit we would be delighted to see you.
All the materials we use are chosen to give years of pleasure as well as being kinder to the environment and you.   

We can offer a wide selection of designs for your kitchen from our innovation of being the Uk's first producer of veneered strawboard. We have some fabulous FSC* veneers Ebano and Zebrano to name a couple, with their bold and contemporary design they really would  add the wow factor to any kitchen. We can also offer bamboo veneered strawboard in a variety of finishes.  The range of veneers is soon to be expanded to include some English tree species sourced from a Somerset company. Our ranges of backlit glass cabinet panel doors are truly stunning.

Worktops and upstands can be made from recycled yoghurt pots as shown in the picture below, recycled coffee cups, bamboo, wood or  a wonderful, exciting sustainable alternative to granite recycled glass worktops. They are highly durable and resist the toughest of stains, such as tomato ketchup, curry etc - we've tested them.

We have a wonderful selection of custom made  kitchen cabinet handles that have been hand crafted by a Somerset metalsmith made mostly from recycled metals and stainless steel to provide the perfect finishing touches. We can also supply kitchen cabinet handles made from recycled glass or turned wooden kitchen knobs.

All our furniture is delivered direct to you fully assembled all that is required is connecting to services where necessary - no flat packs to contend with. Our kitchens are wrapp ed in blankets which are reused; you have no waste packaging to dispose of,. Our drivers are trained to maximise fuel efficiency whilst driving.
